Most new housing projects will have either a mains pressure gas or electric hot water system specified but this will not always apply when renovating.
When deciding on the fittings to be used in your bathroom, kitchen or laundry renovations, it is important to identify the type of hot water supply you currently have.
If you find that your supply is from a low pressure system, consider the age and performance of the unit before going any further. Many low pressure cylinders are nearing the end of their lives and as approximately 90% of the single lever tapware available on today’s market is only suitable for a “mains pressure” hot water application, it may be time to consider a change.
Installed correctly, a Mains pressure system gives you the advantage of superior shower performance and reduces the inherent problems of pressure and temperature fluctuations found in most low pressure systems.

Plumbing fittings are items that should be decided on fairly early in the project.
As there is such a vast variety of product available, suiting every taste and budget, fittings can be and should be chosen and quoted on before you start on site.
The toilet pans, for example, need to be chosen before the concrete floor is poured and concealed mixers and faucets need to be installed in the timber framing before wall linings are fixed.
Don’t wait until your plumber informs you he can’t continue until these things are sorted out!
Use your finalised quotation as the specification list and make sure your plumber and builder are aware of the products to be used.
